You should be given detailed instructions on how to care for your
tattoo. Many instructions involve keeping the tattoo clean with soap and
water, avoiding sunlight, not picking at scabs, and keeping the area
unharmed.
Tips.
1.) Do not use strong soaps or detergents on the tattoo. It is normal for the area to bleed for the next 24 hours after getting the tattoo. Pressure will stop the bleeding, so direct pressure should be applied to stop the minimal amount of bleeding. Cold packs are important to stop the swelling.
2.) Never put the cold pack directly on the skin. Use a cloth or fabric between the skin and the pack. Direct contact will cause skin damage.
Use antibiotic ointment. Apply the ointment onto a nonstick bandage instead of directly on the skin and apply the bandage onto the tattoo area. Always change the bandage everyday. Try to let air flow onto the tattoo area for it needs air to circulate.
3.) If the bandage gets stuck, soak the whole area in warm water and wait. It should come off with your warm shower.
